Training Testimonials
Dr Jo Dewar
GP REGISTRAR UNTIL OCTOBER 2005
The Centre Practice is a
lively, busy Practice that caters for over 15000
patients. I joined the practice to complete the last 6
months of my GP Registrar year and from the outset I was
made to feel welcome by staff and patients alike.
The receptionists,
secretaries and administrators, headed by the practice
manager, are a fantastic team with an excellent work
ethic and a good sense of humour. They have been nothing
but supportive and, without exception, have been a
pleasure to work with.
Bryan is a
dedicated and enthusiastic trainer and the training
program was well organised with regular tutorials and
ample opportunity to discuss cases after surgery. The
clinical work was tailored throughout to my stage of
training and ability, and I was always well supported by
my trainer and the other partners, particularly Dean who
was unfortunate enough to have the room next to mine!
The practice and
district nurses also provided a wealth of knowledge and
experience, particularly in the fields of chronic
diseases, wound care and many of the social aspects of
health.
Due to the size and
diversity of the patient population, I have been exposed
to many of the medical and social problems that present
themselves to General Practitioners. I have consequently
gained a huge amount of knowledge and confidence, and
had the opportunity to develop my communication and
personal skills. Importantly, with the guidance of my
trainer, I have managed to pass all elements of
Summative Assessment.
In summary, I have
thoroughly enjoyed working at The Centre Practice. It
has provided me with a great insight into the medical,
administrative and personal aspects of life in General
Practice. I think the staff are an exceptional team of
people and it has been a pleasure to be part of that
team for a short time.

Conway
Gp
Returner until January 2007
I have just spent
six months at this practice and can thoroughly recommend
it as a training practice. I am a GP returner having
been out of UK General Practice for 15years. As a result
of this I felt very anxious and was practically a
beginner again. All of the partners have welcomed
,supported me and have never made me feel silly. There
is a good variety of different GPs working here and they
have individually given time towards my training with a
range of individual experience, knowledge and approach
which has been invaluable.
This practice is
fairly large and busy with plenty of opportunity to gain
clinical experience without feeling pressurised. The
partners have involved me in practice meetings both
clinical and administrative and have been very generous
in allowing me time off for educational courses. During
my time here I have been able to undertake child
surveillance sessions, minor surgery and IUCD fittings
with support and supervision when necessary. Tutorials
with my trainer and other partners have been prioritised
even when the practice has been very busy with other
issues.
On a personal level
there is a very relaxed and open-minded attitude
here. The doctors have good relationships with each other
and a great sense of humour. The layout of the offices
mean that the registrar will not feel isolated and an
open door policy prevails. The practice trainer is very
enthusiastic, easy to get on with and immensely
knowledgeable in an unassuming way. Initially he has
been able to give intensive support to me without
question and then has allowed me much more autonomy but
has been available when any problems have arisen. The
other doctors have regularly popped in to chat to me as
well, willing to offer help and advice.
All of the practice
staff have been kind and helpful and I will be sad to
leave.
